Field note

Anniversary Marvel NFT comics versus the original issue drop

Anniversary branding is loud. Original issue drops are often quieter: a standard masthead, a single figure, a credits box that still names the first colourist. When we compare them, we ignore the cake-icing on the cover until the interiors have been counted.

Typical anniversary moves include a wraparound that was never on the first drop, a metallic year mark, and a recap page that summarises a decade of stories the original comic did not need to mention.

Cropping is the unglamorous tell. A splash that once bled off three sides may be boxed to make room for a new caption. The fight is familiar; the edition has changed.

Leeds readers sometimes assume the anniversary object is “more complete.” Completeness has to be argued page by page. That argument is the pair report.
